Explaination of scientific name: For the genus Danio (as in Danio albolineatus). For specific name choprai refers to the name of author Dr. B.N. Chopra

Original description: S.L. Hora, 1928. Notes on Burmese Fishes. Rec. Ind. Mus., 30:37-40.

Type specimen: Danio (Brackydanio) choprea

Type locality: Myitkyina District

Distribution: Kachin State, Northern Myanmar.

Habitat: Originally, these small Danio species are found in natural habitat. They are also abundantly found in rocky areas in hill streams.

Characters: The body of the fish is elongate and laterally compressed. Mouth is moderate, obliquely directed upwards. It has two pairs of barbels. Caudal fin is emerginate, Lateral line is rarely present on anterior few scales. The color of the body is olivaceous with dark verticle bars. Scarlet red stripe is present at the back, and it glow brightly under bright light. Dorsal and anal fins have longitudinal bands, and caudal fin has a longitudinal band at each lobe.

Sex differences: The plumpness (fatness) of the fish, indicates it is a female.

Aquarium keeping: The fish behave well in community tanks. Water temperature should be 22°C to 28°C. Dense plantation of aquatic plants in the tank enhances the beautiful color of the fish. The pH value should be rather low and mineral quantity in the water should be less.

Spawning: For breeding Danio choprai, 20 number of juveniles are selected and feed them well with live food such as Tubifex worm, daphinia, and flakes to get well conditioned males and females until they become adults. Choose 30 x 20 x 20 cm tank for breeding and place the water with pH 7, GH 2o to 8o and KH below 2o. The temperature should range between 20o – 24o C. It is better to use a spawning grate that confines the fish to the top 5 cm of water, allowing the eggs to fall through to the bottom of the tank. To make the current of water, power head or power filter should be used. Place 5 pairs of the fish to well established breeding tank. Spawning will take soon, and after the complete spawning the parents are removed The fry will hatch after 72 hours and free swimming begin after 46 hours. First for 3-4 days, infusoria plankton-sized prepared food are feed and then, newly hatched brine shrimp are most appropriate food. The fry will be looked like adult fish, when they are two months old, and they become mature at 5 months old.
