Family Cyprinidae
Minnows and carps
The numbers of species present in the family Cyprinidae is very large compared to the other families. There are more than 22,000 species worldwide. This family of inland water fishes is distributed in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. The fishes from the family Cyprnidae have single gill openings on each side, pelvic fin abdominal. Body is generally compressed, the abdomen rounded or sharp edge. Body has scales (exceptional case Sawbwa resplenden). Cyprinids have no teeth in the jaws, but they have pharyngeal jaws and teeth. The specie of the genera, Danio, Rasbora, Microrasbora, Garra, etc. are small and intermediate sizes, colorful, and lively in the tank, and thus very popular in the ornamental fish market in the world.
