Family Erethistidae
Erethistid catfishes (OR) Asian Moth catfishes
The species of the family Erethistidae in Myanmar are mostly small, cryptically colored with tuberculated skin. Their standard lengths range 30 mm to 75 mm. Their habitats are hill streams, streams and ponds of lowland area, and broad estuaries. In general, these small sized catfishes are available from the streams and small rivers in rocky and aquatic plants covered bottom. For the aquarium fish market, these small catfishes are interested by catfish lovers, thus they are considerably commercially important. Previously the family, Erethistidae has four genera, Conta, Erethistes, Laguvia, and Pseudolaguvia. however later the genus Hara, was relocated back to the Erethistidae family, and the genus, Caelatoglanis was introduced in 2005, thus this family has six genera in South Asia and Southeast Asia. In Myanmar, there are ( 7 ) species of three genera, Hara, Pseudolaguvia, and Caelatoglanis.
