Explanation of scientific name: The genus name Hara was erected by Blyth and the specific name, minuscula means rather small.

 

Original description: Ng. H. H. & M. Kottelat, 2007. A review of the catfish genus Hara, with the description of four new species (Siluriformes: Erethistidae)  REVUE SUISSE DE ZOOLOGIE 114 ( 3 ): 471 – 505; September, 2007

 

Distribution: Yangon Division, Bago Division, Ayeyawady Division of Myanmar

 

Habitat: Hill streams as well as. streams from lowland area with rock or aquatic plants covered beds. The water quality of these ponds and streams are neutral pH, and soft water.

 

Characters: The body of the catfish is slender with flattened ventrally. Head is flat and sharply pointed anteriorly, and its width is almost equal to the length. The dorsal profile is ascending from the tip of the snout to the origin of dorsal fin and descending to the origin of adipose fin. Caudal peduncle is slightly narrow compared to the height of the body at the origin of the dorsal fin. Dorsal spine is moderately long, and gently curved with smooth anterior margin and posterior margin with some serrae. The caudal fin is deeply forked. The color of head and body is dark chestnut brown with mottling. The color of belly and ventral surfaces of head is light brown. The fish has two chevron bands of lighter brown color running just in front of and to the rear of the adipose fin.

The standard lengths of the fish range 25 mm and 31 mm.

 

Sex differences: It is difficult to sex

 

Aquarium keeping: As described in Akysis prashadi.

 

Spawning: No record is available.
