Explanation of scientific name: The generic name Botia is native name, but no meaning was found. Similarly the meaning of specific name historionica was not available in the literature.
Original description: Botia historionica Blyth, 1861, J. Asiat. ec. Beng., 29: 166.
Type specimen: Botia historionica
Type locality: Pegu area, Burma.
Distribution: Ayeyarwady River drainages, from upper Kachin State to Taninthayi Division.
Habitat: Hill streams, lakes, and clear flowing water
Characters: The body is elongate and laterally compressed. Head is moderate and snout is shorter than other parts of head. The eyes are small, and placed in posterior half of head. Mouth is small and it has four pairs of barbels. Dorsal fin is inserted slightly ahead of pelvic fins. Caudal fin is deeply forked. The caudal peduncle tapers posterior. The color of the body is yellow with five dark vertical bands on the body and two on the head. Fins have two broad dark brown bands. The maximum length is 120 mm.
Sex differences: It is difficult to sex.
Spawning: Up to now, there is no record fo breeding this fish.
