Aquarium keeping: The fish can be kept in community tank. However, the beauty of the fish can be more appreciable when they are kept in species tank with thick aquatic plants. The tank size should be 100 x 30 x 35 cm. The water hardness, dH should be 1o -2o and pH should be 6.8. The temperature ranges 22o – 25o C.
Spawning: For breeding purpose, 60-100 liters tank is the best choice for a pair of Sawbwa fish. Other requirements are a small sponge filter and clump of Java fern. The water should be slightly acidic (pH=6.5-6.8) and low minerals (Conductivity=5-10 μS). Size of eggs is almost about a millimeter in diameter. Sawbwa resplendens spawn frequently, perhaps daily, however, number of the eggs are not more than one to two dozen at a time. The incubation period is approximately 2 days at 26o C. Two or three days would take for free swimming of the fry. The length of newly hatched fry is approximately 3.5mm. Primary food is infusoria (microscopic organisms) and later newly hatched brine shrimp nauplii are basic feed.
